Cherry
Orchard House is a charming and comfortable
19th century three storey home and garden decorated in the English
country style with all modern conveniences. The garden is very
private and is particularly lovely in the spring and summer.
This detached house is situated on the outskirts Rushden,
Northamptonshire, close to the Bedfordshire border. It lies midway
between Bedford, and Northampton and is two miles from the village
of Sharnbrook. Local facilities include a There is a 9-hole golf
course and driving range 1km away, a public park, and a swimming pool. The
Rushden Fitness and Health Centre is directly opposite the house.
London is just an hour away by train via Bedford, and many other places of
interest are also nearby.Oxford and Cambridge are both less than
60 minutes drive and Stratford upon Avon is 90 minutes.
Bedford, Bedfordshire’s county town, is a thriving market town dissected
by the beautiful river Ouse which is well used by the town’s many rowing
clubs and pleasure boats. Northampton, Northamptonshire’s county
town, lies on the river Nene. It too is a busy market town and has many
historic buildings. It also has excellent theatre facilities and a very
lively music scene. Sharnbrook is a typical English village that has a theatre,
three pubs, a busy tennis club, cricket club, two football clubs and a bowling
club.
Northamptonshire is known as the ‘Rose of the Shires’ because
of its lovely rural countryside and also as the ‘County of Spires and
Squires’ in reference to its many beautiful old churches and its wealth
of stately homes. Althorp

and burial place is only a 35 minute drive from Rushden.

Teacher Profiles
At The Cherry Orchard Language Studio you now have a choice of two
teachers. Greta’s background is primarily academic, Mary’s
is in the world of business and IT.
Greta
Hill, B.A., T.E.F.L., E.S.O.L.
Greta Hill has had over 30 years
experience, both at home and abroad, of teaching English
to students of all ages and nationalities. Greta holds
a 1st. Class Honours degree in English Literature and Cultural
Studies. She
also trained as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language (T.E.F.L. & E.S.O.L.)
and taught for many years in Athens, Greece, where she worked
for the British Council, as well as teaching privately. Her students
were from all walks of life and included foreign diplomats, government
ministers and their families and many professional business people.
Greta enjoys a full and varied social life. Her interests include:
Music:
-particularly live music performances of blues, jazz, classical, folk, Celtic
and world music
Dancing: Argentine tango & CEROC
Gardening
Walking in the countryside
Reading
Visits to the theatre, opera and ballet
Mary
Maynard, B. Sc., C.E.L.T.A.
Mary Maynard has a Bachelor of Science
degree from Bath University, England and a Certificate
in English Language Teaching from Bell School of Languages, Cambridge.
After university Mary trained as a computer systems analyst and spent
20 years working in banking and insurance in London, New York and Bermuda,
latterly becoming a successful independent computer contractor. A few
years ago Mary switched her career to teaching and is now a computer and English
language teacher. Mary lives in Sharnbrook with her husband and two children
who are presently studying at university.
